MJ Harrington & Co. is a two store retail operation based in Newport and Claremont, New Hampshire with the main offices and retail store located at 33 Main Street in Newport and a sister retail store in Claremont.

Founded in 1948 by Michael J. and Phyllis Lantz Harrington, the company now is owned by the Harrington's nephew, David M. Lantz, who recently took over the reins from his father, James E. Lantz (who still works in the store in his retirement!). MJ Harrington and Company is highly regarded throughout New England as one of the leading stores in the fine jewelry industry and in the community as a generous and concerned resource. With a reputation based upon dependability, quality of goods and services and friendly and experienced staff, MJ Harrington & Company has an extended family of customers throughout the country.

1948 - James Lantz graduates from Western Pennsylvania Horological Institute.
1948 - Mike and Phyllis (Lantz) Harrington establish MJ Harrington Company at its first Newport location which had been a jewelry store since 1841.
1956 - James opens a second Simon's Jewelers store in Brattleboro, Vt., and soon becomes a partner in the company.
1968 - James earns the coveted title of Registered Jeweler with the American Gem Society (AGS).
1970 - James sells the Brattleboro, Vt. store, moves to Newport and purchases the jewelry business from the Harringtons.
1974 - James's son, David graduates from Middlebury College.
1981 - MJ Harrington & Company moves to its current Newport location at 33 Main Street which is renamed "The Lantz Building".
1983 - Dave earns his Registered Jeweler title from the American Gem Society.
1985 - Dave earns his Certified Gemologist Appraiser title from AGS.
1988 - Dave and wife LuAnne blend talents and expand the business with David M. LANTZ creating basket charms to honor the history and craftsmanship of New England.
1990 - MJ Harrington & Company expands by opening its Claremont store at 7 Pleasant Street.
1992 - David Lantz buys the business from his father.
1997 - Dave becomes the first CGA in the country with the title of Certified Bench Jeweler.
The MJ Harrington & Company website goes online.
1998 - MJ Harrington & Company celebrates its 50th Anniversary and is ready to serve its customers for another 50 years.
2002 - The MJ Harrington & Company website goes online with renewed design.
2004 - A two year endeavor undertaken by all of the sales and support staff at the Newport store is completed. Most of the staff has now earned recognition as Certified Sales Associates with successful completion of a multi-unit course through the American Gem Society.
